Scouting For Food 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Scouting For Food is a great program where we as scouts give back to the community. It is scheduled for Saturday, Feb 13th UPDATED 2/2/2010

Scouting for Food is when we, along with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from all over the country, go out into local neighborhoods collecting non-perishable food items for local food banks. We will be supporting the Food Bank at First United Methodist Church in the same neighborhoods as last year.

We need as much participation as possible to meet the food pantry's goals. We collected over 1400 items last year and we want to do better.

We will meet at the church parking lot at 8:45 AM and split up from there. Dens will be assigned specific streets in advance. This event runs from 9:00 AM to Noon

1) Scouts should be in full uniform and bring a bottle of water to drink. Two to three wagons per den is recommended to collect food in

2) Please consider contributing a bag of food to the Scouting for Food effort.  This can make a huge difference to number of items collected during the food drive.

3) Challenge the members of your den to see who can collect the most food for the individual contributions.

4) If you have family living in the area, ask them if they would contribute a bag of food.

5) Talk to your neighbors; ask them to have a bag of food ready for you to bring in.  Many times you can talk them into shopping for Scouting for Food and having a bag ready for you!  You can count them as part of your individual contribution, bring it with you on Saturday morning and we’ll count it.

6) Check the circulars for good buys on food for the pantry, often you can make your dollars go a lot farther.

7) There will be no golden items this year.

8) The Church Food Pantry is bare and needs your help to fill it up!
